Hey!

Well, off to Marmaris next week and very much looking forward to that. It will be a much-needed break as the past few months have been a bit heavy-going at times. This will be the first time that Chris and I have spent such a long time together - sure it'll be fine tho. I've never been to Turkey before but I've heard it's not bad. Hopefully we can get to Ephesus one day.

There was a time, not that long ago when I would have found the recent change in Prime Minister to have been very interesting. Not so anymore. It's just same old same old. It won't make much difference to my life I don't suppose. Mind you, a female Home Secretary is pretty cool I reckon. Why is it though that women in politics are usually pretty awful? Consider this list - Thatcher, Baroness Young, Ann Winterton, Gwynneth Dunwoody, Harriet Harman, Ann Widdecombe, Estelle Morris, Virginia Bottomley, Jenny Tonge, Diane Abbott, Edwina Currie. Okay, Mo Mowlam and Barbara Castle were ok. Suppose her out of Women in Love is tolerable. Generally tho, Tory women are like a cross between Evil Lynne off He-Man and a middle-class woman complaining to a policeman. Kind of like my sister I suppose.

Labour women tend to be hypocritical and untrustworthy - I mean, take Claire Short. Lib Dem women? Well, they're just vague and a little opportunistic. Mind you, a certain Miss Jo Swinson once told me I need to enjoy myself more aand lighten up. I asked her what would be the point in that. She's an MP now in Scotland. Maybe she was right after all.

Mind you, there is one woman who is a redeeming feature amongst femal politicians - the mighty Bernadette Devlin. Wonder what she does these days.

I used to feel that politics was interesting and that politicians were generally good people. I still hold that that is true - but it all goes wrong once they get a bit of power. I mean, why would Mr Brown wish to limit the ties between his party and the unions? Surely the Labour party was founded to represent the working classes - and what better way than to involve the trade unions? Seems to me that Labour is so determined to appeal to middle England that it cares ever less about the interests and concerns of working people. The Lib Dems are increasingly useless - and are too cosy with the Tories for my liking.

Any thoughts?

Bradley

Well hello there. Where to begin. Well, I used to have a blog but ceased updating it some months ago. I fancy a new one so here I am. My name is Bradley. I am 27 years old (taurus) and I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I am a trainee social worker - I work part of the year and spend the other part as a student at Uni. I am gay. I live alone in my flat in the town centre but I have a boyfriend called Chris. We've been together just over a year and it is going very well indeed. We hope to move in together before very long. I have two pet rats, Waylon and Dylan and I love 'em to bits. They are very friendly and very naughty too - loads of character and they keep me occupied when I'm at home.

I was at York Uni between 1999-2002 and I studied History and Politics. Got myself a degree and then worked for Mencap (the charity for learning disabled people) and then briefly for a housing renovation firm (what a hateful nasty evil job that was). I was then unemployed for a bit (with all the depression and boredom that that situation brings) and finally got a job working as a social worker - the local authority pay me to undertake the degree in social work. Don't have much money but I just about manage. I am pretty close to my Mum but don't have much time for my dad. I've recently had a fall out with my sister (I blame her but in reality I guess its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other - we're just too different in our outlooks and life philosophies I reckon). Got a few mates here but not loads. Kind of like my own company anyway. My best friend is called Matthew - not known him for that long but we get on like a house on fire.
Guess that's my situation.

I'm from a working class background and still certainly consider myself to be working class - even though I try to do as little actual work as possible (nah, that's not true - I adore my job). Politically I've been round the block - decided in the end that I am essentially a leftie. Was a member of the Lib Dems and stood for them a couple of times in the local elections - even formed the University society at York. Not a member anymore tho as I find them increasingly uninspiring and getting more and more like the Tories.
God, the weather is crap today.

I am a Christian - or at least I claim to be one. Do go to the Cathedral in Wakey when I'm not too hung ova on a Sunday morning. Certainly not obsessive about it. I don't preach (at least I'm not aware of it if I do). I simply feel that people should at some point in their lives consider spirituality in some form - I don't care much for the 'dunno dun't care' attitude - but I'm happy to argue about that. I reckon it's worth thinking about anyhow.

I drink too much - love real ale. Don't smoke anymore but I am addicted to nicotine gum now. I like my weed tho.

Spare time? Go to the gym in the hope of working off the beer and pizza. I tend not to eat meat but I can't claim to be a veggie. Still eat fish and have too many relapses (mmmm, kebab) for me to be hypocritical about it. I read quite a lot (not just social work texts - I like quality fiction and biographies), Interested in current affairs, family history, writing, walking up mountains, watching Dr Who and watching people - am a bit of a piss-taker.

So the blog? Why bother? I guess I feel I've got a lot to say and want some people to say it to. I plan to write about my experiences in social work (they are interesting really), my relationship, being gay in Wakey - I intend to give a response to issues of the day that I think are interesting. And I suppose that's it.

Apologies for writing a mini-essay but I think it's best that you know who I am and what I'm about from the outset. Hope you enjoy reading. Send me a message too!

See you around.

Bradley -x-
