Hey!
Well, off to Marmaris next week and very much looking forward to that. It will be a much-needed break as the past few months have been a bit heavy-going at times. This will be the first time that Chris and I have spent such a long time together - sure it'll be fine tho. I've never been to Turkey before but I've heard it's not bad. Hopefully we can get to Ephesus one day.
There was a time, not that long ago when I would have found the recent change in Prime Minister to have been very interesting. Not so anymore. It's just same old same old. It won't make much difference to my life I don't suppose. Mind you, a female Home Secretary is pretty cool I reckon. Why is it though that women in politics are usually pretty awful? Consider this list - Thatcher, Baroness Young, Ann Winterton, Gwynneth Dunwoody, Harriet Harman, Ann Widdecombe, Estelle Morris, Virginia Bottomley, Jenny Tonge, Diane Abbott, Edwina Currie. Okay, Mo Mowlam and Barbara Castle were ok. Suppose her out of Women in Love is tolerable. Generally tho, Tory women are like a cross between Evil Lynne off He-Man and a middle-class woman complaining to a policeman. Kind of like my sister I suppose.
Labour women tend to be hypocritical and untrustworthy - I mean, take Claire Short. Lib Dem women? Well, they're just vague and a little opportunistic. Mind you, a certain Miss Jo Swinson once told me I need to enjoy myself more aand lighten up. I asked her what would be the point in that. She's an MP now in Scotland. Maybe she was right after all.
Mind you, there is one woman who is a redeeming feature amongst femal politicians - the mighty Bernadette Devlin. Wonder what she does these days.
I used to feel that politics was interesting and that politicians were generally good people. I still hold that that is true - but it all goes wrong once they get a bit of power. I mean, why would Mr Brown wish to limit the ties between his party and the unions? Surely the Labour party was founded to represent the working classes - and what better way than to involve the trade unions? Seems to me that Labour is so determined to appeal to middle England that it cares ever less about the interests and concerns of working people. The Lib Dems are increasingly useless - and are too cosy with the Tories for my liking.
Any thoughts?
